  • George K.Davis School, KennedyParkGuy (guest) wrote 12 years ago:
William G. Davis Junior Public School, actually. When the school opened in 1967, its namesake was Ontario's Minister of Education; he later served as Premier of Ontario from 1971-1985. Oh, and back then, it was within the Township of Pickering. There's still a plaque here denoting that.
  • Rouge Hill GO Train Station, KennedyParkGuy (guest) wrote 12 years ago:
Since its opening in 1967, this station has been part of three different municipalities: Pickering (1967-1973; Port Union was its western boundary back then), Scarborough (1974-1997), and Toronto (1998-present). The parking lot to the north is also for this station.
  • Greenwood Station (TTC), KennedyParkGuy (guest) wrote 12 years ago:
The only three Bloor-Danforth stations that do NOT exit onto the street they're named after: this one, Kipling, and Kennedy. At least the equally confusingly named Greenwood Race Track isn't around anymore...
  • York Cemetery, KennedyParkGuy (guest) wrote 12 years ago:
Trivia: the entrance to this cemetery was directly off Yonge Street until the 1960s.
  • Sheppard-Yonge Station Bus Terminal (TTC), KennedyParkGuy (guest) wrote 12 years ago:
Historical note: although the bus terminal never moved since the station opened in 1974, it only became part of the station's fare-paid area in 2002, a few months before the Sheppard line opened. Those barriers at the Harlandale entrance weren't originally there...
  • North York Centre Station (TTC), KennedyParkGuy (guest) wrote 12 years ago:
In the TTC subway system, stairs, escalators, doors, etc. here are labeled "23Y," whereas those at Sheppard are "21Y," and at Finch they're "22Y." That's because those stations opened first.
  • TTC Finch Station East Parking Lot, KennedyParkGuy (guest) wrote 12 years ago:
No kidding - a walk from the Hilda end of the west parking lot to the Willowdale end of the east parking lot is nearly a mile.
  • Finch Terminal, KennedyParkGuy (guest) wrote 12 years ago:
Brampton Transit hasn't gone here since fall 2010 (when Züm launched); this terminal will be relieved further when the Vaughan subway extension opens in 2015.
  • Hudson's Bay, KennedyParkGuy (guest) wrote 12 years ago:
I believe that both the Simpsons -> The Bay and Towne and Countrye -> Centerpoint name changes took place in 1991.
  • Hudson's Bay, KennedyParkGuy (guest) wrote 12 years ago:
A former Simpsons, and IIRC you can still make out the "Simpsons" outline here; the exterior colour scheme never changed.
  • Pickle Barrel, KennedyParkGuy (guest) wrote 12 years ago:
This is the original Pickle Barrel location, opened in 1971.
  • The Peanut, KennedyParkGuy (guest) wrote 12 years ago:
Can't really call it a neighbourhood... there are no homes inside the Peanut. It's more accurately a hub for the Don Valley Village neighbourhood (Finch-404-Sheppard-Leslie), including a church, a junior high school, a secondary school, a community centre, a park, and a plaza.
  • Brian Village, KennedyParkGuy (guest) wrote 12 years ago:
More accurately, The Shoppes of Brian Village
  • Foody Mart, KennedyParkGuy (guest) wrote 12 years ago:
This store was a Dominion until ~2006. Yes, the Dominion at the south end of Bridlewood Mall (now Metro) was there back then, too (and actually predates this one).
  • Port Union Waterfront Park, Pirth (guest) wrote 12 years ago:
excellent place to visit and relax!
  • Start of "The Beltline" Park, Michael (guest) wrote 12 years ago:
Actually the beltline path extends further west. It follows Roselawn for about 300 meters, then you must cut between two buildings, going south, then it picks up again as a path/trail and ends just past Caledonia. I've travelled the length of it on my ebike and it's very nice. Good for strolling, biking, dog walking...
