My father goes shopping here. Interesting how its bakery and deli were very bad when it first opened, then got better as more of Liberty Village got developed...
  • Ted Rogers School of Management, Ryerson University, KennedyParkGuy (guest) wrote 15 years ago:
It's called the Ted Rogers School of Management... and as a Ryerson student, I found it extremely difficult to navigate when one of my classes was relocated here. I'm more comfortable with it now though.

HBC's acquisition of Simpsons didn't result in the discontinuation of the Simpsons brand, just the end of the Simpsons-Sears partnership. HBC didn't rebrand its Simpsons stores into The Bay until 1991. This particular store doubled as the set for the 80s TVO children's series "Today's Special."
  • Eatons Center Rooftop Parking Lot, KennedyParkGuy (guest) wrote 15 years ago:
You know, until I saw a satellite view of the Eaton Centre, I never knew it had a rooftop parking lot... guess that's what happens when neither of my parents like to drive downtown and I don't have a licence (I take the TTC everywhere, and the Eaton Centre has entrances to TWO subway stations).

Isn't this on the NORTHwest corner? Guess I'll find out when I use those two $10 Beer Store gift certificates I got for Christmas...

In the mid-80s, my parents used to shop at the Dominion here to get $1 Blue Jays tickets, back when they were good.

Formerly the location of Willison's famous "lady on the swing" billboard
  • Lativan Cultural Centre, KennedyParkGuy (guest) wrote 15 years ago:
There's a sign for it eastbound along Eglinton from the DVP... not as iconic as Willison's "lady on the swing," but nice nonetheless.
  • Philthy McNasty's, KennedyParkGuy (guest) wrote 15 years ago:
Was this where the old St-Hubert was? I know there was one in this area until around 2000...
  • Donut Shop, KennedyParkGuy (guest) wrote 15 years ago:
It used to be a Donut World... now it's a used car dealership, I think.

It's actually called "Midland Lawrence Plaza." Lawrence Plaza is at Bathurst and Lawrence.

(Remember that the Cedarbrae cinemas had only 8 screens)
  • Staples Business Depot, KennedyParkGuy (guest) wrote 15 years ago:
I find it amazing that the Cedarbrae cinemas were Canada's largest as recently as 1991, and by the end of the decade AMC had a 30-screen movie theatre across the street from Famous Players' 19-screen movie theatre in Vaughan.
