Lived here for almost 3 years, my girlfriend for 4. she was mugged by kids about 2 years ago, but they weren't from the area. Yes this place has it's fair share of reprobates, crackwhores and scumbags roaming the streets, but they are living in a different reality which doesn't cross into that of the majority of the other residents. Just a scratch under the surface reveals a very tight knit, generous and welcoming community of friendly faces with a truly unique spirit. Cowanation, the annual street party, epitomizes this culture and should not be missed. One of the best places to live in the city.
